GERDENE began with one simple wish: to share the warmth and purity of real Mongolian cashmere with the world.

Ariunbold "Sasha" Amgalan  grew up in Mongolia, where cashmere isn't a trend. It's part of everyday life, passed down through generations of herding families.

While studying in Canada, he travelled back and forth between the two countries and kept asking himself one question: why couldn't Canadians find real Mongolian cashmere? So he started bringing pieces back as gifts for friends. They loved the softness, the warmth and how long it lasted, and they kept asking for more. That's how GERDENE was born.

From the steppe to you
Every GERDENE piece is made from 100% Mongolian cashmere. In spring, the soft undercoat is gently combed from goats raised by herding families on the open steppe, so no animal is harmed. From combing to knitting, every step is done with care, and the whole piece is made in Mongolia.

Natural. Ethical. Traceable.

• Natural: Most of our pieces are left undyed and untreated, keeping the fibre's own colours with no harsh chemicals.
• Ethical: We work directly with herders  in Mongolia, and the fibre is combed, never sheared.
• Traceable: We know where our cashmere comes from and who made it.

The result is cashmere that's soft, breathable and made to last for years, not just one season.
